The Banquet of Distraction: When the Feast Blinds Us to the Master’s Call

Scripture Reading:
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” – Revelation 3:20

The Modern Banquet

Beloved, we live in a time where the table is never empty. There are endless screens to entertain us, possessions to chase, and comforts to enjoy. The world’s feast is rich in flavor but poor in substance. Many sit at the long table of distraction, feasting on what cannot satisfy, while the true banquet — the fellowship of Christ — waits just outside.

The Call from the Door

At the far end of the hall, a light shines. Jesus stands at the door, calling. His voice is gentle but steady, cutting through the noise and laughter. Yet only a few lift their heads from their plates. Some glance His way but quickly return to their glowing screens or piles of gold. Others do not notice at all.

This is the danger, dear brothers and sisters: our eyes fixed on the feast of this world until our hearts grow dull to the Master’s voice.

What We’re Missing

The table of distraction offers momentary pleasure but leaves the soul hungry. The Master’s table offers life, peace, and eternal joy — yet it is often ignored because it does not compete in noise or spectacle. His call requires us to stand, leave our seat, and walk away from what is comfortable.

The prophet Isaiah declared:
“Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and delight yourself in abundance.” (Isaiah 55:2)

Returning to the Feast That Satisfies

The call of Jesus is not simply to leave the wrong feast, but to join the right one. His table is set with forgiveness, His cup filled with grace, and His presence overflowing with joy. Yet it requires repentance — turning from the banquet of distraction and walking toward the One who waits with open arms.

Beloved, the world will keep offering you another plate, another cup, another show, another scroll of the screen. But Christ offers something better: Himself.

A Call to Respond

Today, if you hear His voice, rise from your seat at the world’s table. Let go of the silver and gold that cannot save you. Turn from the glowing lights that keep you in the shadows. Walk to the open door, where your Savior waits.

“Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.” – Psalm 34:8

Reflection Question:
What distractions are keeping you from answering His call? Take time today to turn from the table and walk to the door.
