Hope That Outlasts Violence and Fear

(Living as Exiles: Apostolic Letters for Today’s Believers, Part 5)

Beloved in Christ,

The world trembles with unrest. Nations rage, cities break, violence multiplies, and fear creeps into the hearts of many. Yet none of this is new. From the beginning, men have lifted sword against one another. But hear the Word of your Lord: “See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet” (Matthew 24:6).

Fear is the currency of this age, but it is not the inheritance of the saints. “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7). While the world despairs, you are to be a people of hope. While others curse the darkness, you are to shine with light. For your King has promised: “Behold, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:5).

Beloved, do not let your heart be overcome by evil. The Scripture commands: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21). When hatred rises, answer with love. When violence erupts, cling to peace. When fear whispers, remember the victory of the Lamb. Christ is not shaken, and neither are those who stand in Him.

Lift your eyes, for your hope does not rest in governments, armies, or human solutions. It rests in the risen Christ, who will come again to judge the world in righteousness and to wipe away every tear from your eyes. This is your anchor in the storm, your song in the night, your courage in the days to come.

Why This Matters

Fear enslaves, but hope frees. If you allow the violence and chaos of the age to dictate your heart, you will live in despair. But when your hope is fixed on Christ and His unshakable kingdom, you can stand firm, love boldly, and endure joyfully. The world may be shaken, but the people of God cannot be moved, for they belong to a kingdom that will never end.
