The First Lie: How Doubting Genesis Destroys Faith

The Distraction That Leads to Doubt

Jesus often began with a question to stir the heart. So let us ask: “Did God really say He created everything in six days?” (Genesis 3:1). That was the serpent’s approach in Eden, and it still echoes today through the voice of modern science.

Many scientists claim the earth is 4.5 billion years old, based on radiometric dating of rocks, moon dust, and meteorites. These claims are presented as facts to children as early as middle school. But behind these “facts” is a philosophy—a worldview that rejects the Word of God.

In contrast, Scripture teaches plainly:

“In six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.” — Exodus 20:11

This wasn’t poetic. It was written by the very finger of God on stone tablets (Exodus 31:18). If we discard the literal six-day creation, we begin to unravel the foundation of the entire Bible—because all of it is built on the truth of what God has done, from Genesis to Revelation.

Why It Matters

The lie of evolution isn’t just about the origin of species—it’s about the origin of doubt. Satan wants to undermine the authority of God’s Word, starting with the first chapter. Jesus said of the devil:

“He was a murderer from the beginning… for he is a liar and the father of lies.” — John 8:44

If you cannot trust Genesis 1, can you trust John 3:16? Can you trust the prophets who foretold the Messiah? Can you trust the apostles who wrote of His resurrection? A compromised foundation leads to a collapsing faith.

The Lord said:

“If you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.” — John 5:46

Evolution as a Form of Religion

Some may object: “Evolution isn’t a religion!” But consider the definition. Religion is a belief system about the cause and purpose of the universe, often embraced with devotion and promoted through teaching.

The belief that everything came from nothing through random processes is not science—it’s faith in a different god: human reason. And those who teach it become evangelists of doubt, missionaries of a worldview that leads people away from the truth of God.

Paul warned:

“See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men… rather than according to Christ.” — Colossians 2:8

The Power of Knowledge—and the Danger of Forgetting

The prophet Hosea declared:

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you.” — Hosea 4:6

True knowledge begins with the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 9:10), and that fear includes believing what He says about creation. When we trade God’s revelation for man’s speculation, we begin walking down a dangerous path.

Even archaeology, when approached honestly, supports the Bible. Discoveries like Noah’s Ark on Mount Ararat (Genesis 8:4), the ruins of Jericho, and the Red Sea crossing site all testify to the truth of Scripture—but they’re often ignored because they don’t fit the scientific narrative taught in schools.

A Warning from the Parable of the Sower

Jesus taught that some hear the Word but quickly fall away because they have no root. He said:

“When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.” — Matthew 13:21

This describes many who try to mix faith with evolutionary theory. The root of their trust isn’t in the Word—it’s in science. And when the two seem to contradict, they side with man over God.

But Scripture warns:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5

Conclusion: Hold Fast to the Truth

You cannot serve two masters. You cannot affirm a worldview that denies God’s Word and also claim to follow Christ. Jesus never compromised with lies, and neither should we.

“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” — John 17:17

Let the world call us foolish. Let scientists scoff. We will stand on the unshakable Word of God.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.” — Matthew 24:35
